A Bit of Culture - Hindu Wedding

1) Our Hindu wedding emphasis that not only man should be successful in life but woman also must lead a successful life. While knotting the thali this mantra will be recited by bridegroom:

Maangalyam thanthunaanaena
mama jeevitha haethunaa
kanttae bathnaami supahae
... anjeeva sarasa satham
its means :

This yellow rope is a sacred thread. This will help my longevity and live well. I shall now tie this rope in your neck. I pray you live happily for a hundred years and may you attain all auspiciousness and lead a successful life.

2) Our hindu wedding gives equal right for man and woman. It is shown during the act of exchanging garlands. According to hindu traditions garlands may only used once on a individual and this garlands cannot be used nor accepted by another individual. Wearing garlands already worn by another individuals is considered inauspicious. However hindu wedding rituals require the bride and bridegroom to exchange the garlands to signifies husband and his wife are not considered separate individuals, and they united as single family unit. Hence, they are now equal partners and they will share everything together in future.

3) Being strong is not only for man but also for woman. Our hindu wedding wanted all hindu wife to be strong and firm. as the bride steps on grinding stone (ammi) and asked to view arundathati, she will be told :Just like this grinding stone be strong and firm at all times and in all matters.

4) Hindu wedding gives woman a very highest place in family. It was proven when the bridegroom carried the bride’s foot one after the other and placed a silver toe-ring (metti) around a second toe in a public ceremony (But that doesn't mean that man have lower place in family, since hindu wedding is always gives important on equality between wife and husband).
