Secrets to Being Likable in Interviews

When people are looking for work, especially if they are between jobs, it's not uncommon to have a crisis of confidence in interviews. As an interviewer, it's pretty easy to spot someone who is experiencing this. They tend to do one of two things:
  • Act overly confident and boastful, hoping to appear too good to be true.
  • Act extremely humble and too nice, hoping to appear very grateful for the opportunity.
Both approaches can cost the job.

Balance of Confidence & Humility

The secret to being likable in interviews is to find that fine balance of confidence and humility. There is a simple two-step process you can use when answering interview questions to help with that.

1) Always talk about yourself using quantifiable accomplishments. Back-up every statement you make about your abilities with facts and statistics to validate what you are saying.

2) Make it clear that while you are proud of these accomplishments, you did not achieve them alone. Give credit to those who helped you achieve those accomplishments as a way to prove you understand there is no "i" in "team."

You Are Not Special, But You Are Unique

In interviews, your goal is to show the employer how you're unique from other candidates. Specifically, how that uniqueness will provide the greatest return on their investment. It is not your goal to appear special - none of us are. Keep that in mind on interviews and you'll not only find it easier to keep the crisis of confidence in check, you'll be more likeable too.

Guide for attending Job Interview




1.Do a research about the Company/organization:

This means that you should have all the prior information about the company, how they conduct business activities/services and many more relating to a particular company.

2.Prepare yourself before the interview:

This involves going through what you have lead from school, as well as setting your mind free and relaxed to avoid fear and panic during interview.

3.Be smart and on time:

Being smart will attract the interviewer in the sense that if you look smart you will be smart at work as well. Moreover arriving late during the interview it shows that you will be arriving late at work and this may force the interviewers to disqualify you.

4.Remember names:

This do not mean that to remember your names, but before the interview Interviewers may introduce themselves to you, then it is you duty to remember them.Here you are recommended to go with something like notebook and write their names, when one of the interviewer asks you a question you can say thank you Mr X for the question and then proceed.This will add up credits

5.Shake hands firmly:

The way you shake hands with the interviewers

6.Smile:
It makes Interviewers happy, and some of them might be attracted through that

7.Be attentive:

Here you may use body language to show that you agree/ you understood the question. Listen carefully when the question is asked.

8.Be Confident:

Confidence is the key factor during the interview, this shows how smart you are in handling issues you may face at Job place.Failure to do so it shows that you are not sure of what you are standing for.

9.Take a thank you card:

Few days after the interview you may send the appreciation card to thank the interviewers, Interviews are human beings and they feel good once someone appreciate their work.

10.Do follow up:

If the company promise you that they will call you after a week do not wait until the due time, go physically before and ask for progress, this is due to the fact that take an example you were ten candidates and all of you answered all questions correctly and the company needs only three people, then they might decide that the first three that will come to see the results will be employed,you see that?
